Starry Lee Wai-king, one of the DAB's young rising stars, wants to see new thinking in urban planning policies if she wins a Legislative Council seat in September.
A Kowloon City district councillor who is tipped to lead the party's ticket in Kowloon West in the Legco elections, Ms Lee is keen to use her experience as a member of the Town Planning Board if she is elected.
"Take the numerous applications for changing the use of old factory buildings as an example. They are often left unsettled, for reasons such as fire prevention regulations not being met," she said. "I am not saying safety standards should be compromised, but shouldn't the government help these applicants solve the problems?"
The accountant was only 25 when she was first elected a district councillor in 1999 and has served on various government consultation bodies.
"I will equip myself to take up challenges," Ms Lee said on her prospects of becoming a legislator. But she stopped short of commenting on her chances of succeeding Tsang Yok-sing - who was chairman of one of the DAB's forerunners - at the head of the party's candidate ticket.
Ms Lee is seen as a Tsang protege and ran in the Legco race in 2004 as the third candidate in a team led by Mr Tsang. Mr Tsang is expected to take a back seat in the upcoming election to make room for the party's new blood.
Women's policy issues and poverty alleviation also interest Ms Lee.
