Hang Lung to appeal
1. Hang Lung to appeal
Hang Lung Development will raise an objection to the Town Planning Board's proposed
building height restrictions on Shekkipmei and Yau Yat Chuen in central Kowloon.
The latest height control proposal would affect the developer's plans for a 17-storey
residential redevelopment in Lung Chu Street in Shekkipmei, limiting the project
to a maximum of 12 storeys. Sources said Hang Lung would lodge an objection to
the new controls, which might affect the value of the redevelopment. The Town
Planning Board last week suggested imposing height controls on various sites of
Shekkipmei and Yau Yat Chuen in an effort to preserve the low-rise environment
of the area. Height limits vary for the sites in accordance with zoning and location.
Most private residential redevelopments in the area are restricted to a maximum
height of 10 to 12 storeys. The proposed restrictions would be an attempt to curb
the trend of building high-rise towers in the area. Surveyors expect the objection
to be in vain despite Hang Lung winning approval in March to convert the Salvation
Army Tai Hang Tung Social Centre to a 17-storey residential development. [Source:
