1. Building plans approved in August

The Buildings Department approved 19 building plans in August -- five on Hong Kong Island, seven in Kowloon and seven in the New Territories. The approved plans covered 10 for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, two for factory and industrial developments, and seven for community services developments. In the same month, consent was given for works to start on 10 building projects, which will provide on completion 84,385 square metres of usable domestic floor area and 8,300 square metres of usable non-domestic floor area. The department also issued 22 occupation permits -- six on Hong Kong Island, five in Kowloon and 11 in the New Territories. Of the buildings certified for occupation, the usable floor areas for domestic and non-domestic uses were 29,137 square metres and 63,023 square metres respectively. The declared cost of the new buildings completed in August totalled about $1.929 billion. In addition, five demolition consents involving five buildings and structures were issued. The department received 1,096 complaints against unauthorised building works in August, and issued 1,209 removal orders on unauthorised works. End/Monday, October 15, 2001.
